Robert Davis Hughes has taught at the University of the South since 1977. His courses have covered everything from Introduction to Doctrine and Theological Foundations to Contemporary Theology of Creation and Advanced Theological Bibliography and Research, and everything in between. He has also served on the faculty of the Stillpoint School for Spiritual Direction since 1991.
For the University of the South, he continues to serve boards, commissions and organizations designed to improve the school, the lives and educations of the students, and the work lives of the faculty and staff.

Bob is currently completing nine years of service as a member of the General Board of Examining Chaplains and has been serving as a Representative to the Episcopal Council on Global Missions from the Seminary Consultation on Mission since 1993, serving on the steering committee of that Council in 1997.
He has been active in the Conference of Anglican Theologians (beginning in 1997, Society of Anglican and Lutheran Theologians), serving as an officer for several years. He has also served as the Vice President for Private Institutions, and been a member of the Tennessee State Conference, American Association of University Professors, 1990-94. Acting President, 1992, President, 1994-96; and the National Council from 1997-2000.
Bob has supported the National Church and Diocese of Tennessee in a variety of roles, including working with the Ecumenical Commission, 1981-84; Department of Christian Education, 1984-87; Alcohol and Drug Commission, 1983-90, and the Cursillo Team, 1986, 1988, 1994, and he served on the Board for Theological Education, Conant Fund Grants Committee, 1991-94.
